A Medieval Masterpiece? Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Smashes Expectations

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is finally here, and I couldn’t be happier. As someone who absolutely loved the first game, I knew this sequel had a lot to live up to. The original was a one-of-a-kind experience: an RPG that threw you headfirst into medieval Bohemia with no hand-holding, no overpowered hero fantasy, just pure, unforgiving (and sometimes frustrating)  immersion.

So when Warhorse Studios announced a sequel, I knew right away that I wanted more of that uncompromising vision – only bigger and better, and with fewer moments of me accidentally getting caught by a guard trying to lockpick a chest. Seriously, to this day, I still have such a hard time with lockpicking in this game.

A Sequel That Doesn’t Hold Back

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Henry and Pebbles

So, what do fans think of the new game? Well, you know what they say – vote with your wallets. And if that’s the metric to go by, it’s been one hell of a launch for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. In just under two weeks, Warhorse Studios’ medieval RPG has sold over two million copies. And honestly? It deserves every bit of success.

Within the first 24 hours, the game had already hit a million sales, and just days later, that number doubled. It’s easy to see why: the game builds on everything that made the original great – deep RPG mechanics, a commitment to historical accuracy, and an engaging story – while refining its gameplay to a near-flawless degree.

Embracer Group called the launch “initially successful,” which is corporate-speak for “we underestimated just how much people wanted this game.” CEO Lars Wingefors emphasized that Warhorse Studios has a robust roadmap planned, with updates and new content coming over the next year, including three expansions set to drop in 2025.

  • Spring: Free updates, including a Barber feature for more customization, Hardcore Mode, and Horse Racing.
  • Summer: Brushes with Death is a story expansion in which Henry helps an enigmatic artist with a shady past.
  • Autumn: Legacy of the Forge dives into the history of Henry’s adoptive father, Martin.
  • Winter: Mysteria Ecclesia, a monastery-focused expansion that promises political intrigue and undercover missions.

The Kingdom Come: Deliverance Community Steps In

And if selling millions of copies wasn’t enough, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has also sparked something genuinely unexpected – an outbreak of medieval generosity.

Over on Reddit, user verdantsf kickstarted a movement by gifting $600 worth of copies to strangers who couldn’t afford the game.

Their reasoning? Someone once did the same for them when they were going through a tough time, and now that they’re in a better place, they wanted to pay it forward. That generosity inspired at least 30 more players to do the same, bringing the total estimated amount of gifted copies to over $3,600 – and that’s just the ones we know about.

Even Warhorse Studios took notice, pitching in with five more copies and sending verdantsf a Collector’s Edition of the game as a token of appreciation.

In an industry often dominated by discussions of microtransactions, corporate greed, and online toxicity, this is the kind of story that reminds us why gaming communities matter. It’s not just about playing a great game – it’s about sharing that experience with others and making sure more people get to be part of something special. And as verdantsf put it, “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest RPG successes of the decade. If this momentum keeps up, we could be looking at a new heavyweight in the RPG space.
